Sprinkler Tank Lining
SGI Composites was appointed to carry out a permanent repair to an industrial fire sprinkler storage tank after a number of minor leaks were identified. To restore the tank’s integrity and prevent further deterioration, a high-performance fibreglass (FRP) lining system was applied to the cylindrical structure, creating a seamless, watertight barrier.
The entire installation was completed within one week, minimising disruption while delivering a reliable, long-term solution. The refurbished tank is now fully protected against leaks and corrosion, ensuring dependable performance and extending its service life for many years to come.
Problem & Long-Term Solution
The manufacturer’s water storage tank, which supplied a factory-wide sprinkler system, had developed severe corrosion at the waterline, leading to multiple small leaks. This not only posed a significant risk in the event of a fire but also meant the tank was likely to fail an upcoming safety inspection, potentially resulting in increased insurance costs.

After conducting a free site survey, our team recommended the application of a strong and flexible fibreglass (FRP) lining system. Installation Process & Complete Refurbishment
The SGI Composites team began by removing accumulated sludge from the base of the tank before grit blasting all internal surfaces to eliminate scale and corrosion. Due to severe deterioration at the waterline, all compromised areas were carefully removed and rebuilt using fibreglass (FRP). Multiple layers were applied internally, with additional reinforcement added externally and extended above the affected zone to provide enhanced structural strength.
A full FRP lining system was then applied across the entire tank interior, ensuring a seamless, fully sealed and watertight finish. The lining was completed with a light grey topcoat, delivering a clean, durable, and corrosion-resistant surface. The entire refurbishment was completed within one week, with minimal disruption and at a fraction of the cost of tank replacement.

Waterline Corrosion Repair:
A band of severe corrosion had developed at the waterline, requiring targeted structural repair. SGI Composites removed all damaged material before rebuilding the affected upper section of the tank using fibreglass (FRP). Four layers were applied internally, with an additional layer externally, extending above the original corrosion zone to provide enhanced strength, durability, and long-term protection.
