SGI Composites (formerly Sui Generis) was established in 1996 with the intention to specialise in bespoke fibreglass mouldings.
However, at any early stage the versatility, robustness and consequent massive potential of specialist composites was recognised and gradual progression has seen the company become experts in a wide variety of FRP and GRP applications including Bespoke Component Manufacturing, Linings, Walkway Grating, Anti Slip & Spill Containment products and Protective Coatings.

Whilst our manufacturing roots remain firmly based in Essex, our experienced technicians travel globally to deliver innovative FRP composite and GRP solutions, including sustainable refurbishment and repair of structures such as storage tanks, concrete bunds, and cooling towers.
Our expertise extends beyond fibreglass linings; where GRP linings aren’t the ideal choice, we offer alternative solutions as ISO quality-accredited installers of advanced industrial coatings and bespoke composite fabrications.

Rita Cornwell Managing Director
Rita joined the business as Managing Director in 2025 with extensive experience in finance, operations, and commercial leadership. She has a proven track record of driving business transformation, strategic growth, and cultural change, gained across manufacturing, OEM, CEM, and B2B environments.
Jonathan Howard Sales Director
Jonathan joined the business in 2025 as Sales Director bringing significant experience across infrastructure, construction, and engineered composite systems. He has a proven ability to develop strategic relationships, open new markets, and deliver commercial growth, while supporting clients through design, manufacture, and installation phases. His background spans sales leadership and business development within manufacturing and engineering-led B2B environments.
Elliot Gregoire Operations Manager
Elliot joined the business over 25 years ago as a trainee and has progressed through roles across site operations, manufacturing, and management. As Operations Manager at SGI Composites, he oversees manufacturing, operational systems, and compliance, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Jonathan Derrick Production Manager
Jonathan is a long-standing member of the team having joined in 2009 as a trainee finisher. Following development, he progressed into a supervisory role and now leads the production function as Production Manager. Jonathan plays a key role in overseeing day-to-day manufacturing activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. His experience across the business provides strong leadership on the shop floor and supports the continued development of the production team.
Anthony Finch Key Account Manager
Anthony brings hands-on experience from site installation and fabrication into his current role. He now supports infrastructure and construction projects from design, planning through delivery. He is also involved in R&D, helping develop new and innovative solutions. Practical, proactive and focused on delivering real value.
Charley Cook Finance Manager
Charley joined the business in 2013, starting his career as a yard operative before progressing through several key roles across the company. Now Finance Manager, he oversees financial reporting, budgeting, and supports the leadership team with financial insight.
Roy Wood Operations Supervisor
Roy is a highly experienced and trusted member of the team, acting as a key support to the Operations Manager across all areas of the business. He plays a pivotal role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard across both manufacturing and site operations. Roy is actively involved in health & safety, supporting compliance and assisting with the ongoing management of facilities across the site. He also brings strong expertise in logistics, particularly when coordinating bespoke deliveries, ensuring projects are seamlessly managed from production through to installation.
Kirsty Collins Operations Coordinator
Kirsty is a key member of the operations team, supporting the planning and coordination of projects across the business. She plays an important role in ensuring works are scheduled effectively and that communication between departments remains clear and aligned. Kirsty supports the smooth delivery of projects by coordinating production, sales, and logistics activities, helping to ensure customer requirements are met on time and to a high standard.
Keaton Elliot Operations Administrator
Keaton supports the operations team through the effective coordination and administration of key processes across the business. He is responsible for maintaining accurate records, assisting with works orders, and supporting the day-to-day running of operations. Keaton also assists with booking daily deliveries with couriers, helping to ensure products are dispatched efficiently and on schedule.
Mat Berry Technical Specialist
Mat Berry is a highly experienced composites professional with over 26 years at the company. He began his career as a site laminator, specialising in tank and bund lining, as well as protective coatings across industrial environments. Progressing to Contracts Manager, he successfully delivered complex projects to a high standard. He now provides technical support, offering practical expertise, troubleshooting, and guidance on GRP systems and applications.
João Paula Business Solutions
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, Joao is responsible for delivering high-quality technical solutions that bridge the gap between complex theory and functional execution. He focuses on optimizing product performance and ensuring every design meets rigorous commercial standards. Outside of the office, you’ll most likely find Joao at CrossFit or enjoying a long walk by the beach.
Dean Cook Senior Sales Executive
Dean joined SGI Composites at just 17 and has since built over 12 years of experience within the business. He began in the cut and pack department before moving into fibreglass laminating, where he spent 7 years developing a strong technical understanding of GRP manufacturing. Over the past 4 years, Dean has progressed into a sales role, where he combines his hands-on experience with a commercial approach to deliver practical, client-focused solutions across a range of sectors.
Joy Palmer Sales Estimator
Joy joined the business in 2024, bringing a warm, approachable manner and strong attention to detail to every enquiry. As one of the friendly voices on the phone, she puts customers at ease while guiding them clearly through the estimating process. Known for her helpful nature and positive attitude, Joy ensures each quote is handled efficiently and accurately, always keeping the customer’s needs front of mind. Outside of work, she is a passionate animal lover, reflecting her caring and attentive approach both professionally and personally.
Nicky Watson Finance Assistant
Nicky brings a strong administrative background to SGI’s finance team. She is currently studying for her AAT Diploma in Professional Accounting to further enhance the financial support she provides to the business. Outside of the office, Nicky is a novice runner who is more likely to be found catching up on live court trials on YouTube than breaking any land speed records!

A standout example of our capability is the refurbishment of the historic ironworks at St Pancras railway station — a four-year, £11 million project. This complex undertaking involved ultra-high-pressure water jetting to remove hazardous lead-based coatings and the application of a modern, long-life protective system. The success of this project highlights our ability to deliver specialist work at the highest level of precision and compliance.

We specialise in custom engineered FRP and GRP Component Manufacturing, Protective Linings & Coatings, Enclosures & Housings and Furniture & Planters.
Our GRP architectural mouldings have been installed at Galleons Reach, Becton enhancing the London skyline. You will also find our products in the trendy, refurbished Fort Dunlop in Birmingham.
We have manufactured chemical crop spraying tanks and other components for the agricultural market. At the quality end of the automotive industry we supply hand made moulded components to the highest standards.
On the darker side, sewerage works, effluent tanks and sludge pits have been cleaned and composit lined. While this type of work may not be very salubrious, our client list is very impressive.
Since 1996 we have offered specialist surface preparation and industrial cleaning – making our personnel some of the most experienced in the industry.
In 2005 we established our own manufacturing facility and offer some of the finest quality GRP anti-slip grating and walkway solutions in the world at extremely competitive rates.
In addition to grating, we created the Safe Tread anti-slip product range, designed to be a quick and cost effective solution to improving safety in potential slip hazard areas.
We are innovators and specialists in various aspects of moulded spill containment. We’ve developed our range of bunds, bund linings and spill control products in direct response to the latest storage regulations – so they’ll keep you fully compliant and safe.
