Compromised by pressure from the surrounding water table
SGI Composites carried out specialist fibreglass (FRP) lining and structural repairs to an underground effluent tank that had been compromised by pressure from the surrounding water table. The tank, used to store an ethanol and water effluent mixture, required a full refurbishment to restore its integrity and ensure long-term performance.
All internal wall and floor surfaces were carefully prepared, with damaged and cracked areas repaired prior to lining. To further strengthen the structure, reinforcing ribs were installed around the tank walls and fully encapsulated within the FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) system, significantly improving durability and resistance to external pressure. This comprehensive repair and lining solution has restored the tank to a watertight, corrosion-resistant condition, extending its service life in a demanding underground environment.
Surface Preparation & Repairs
All tank wall and floor surfaces were thoroughly prepared, with repairs carried out to cracked and damaged areas. This ensured a sound, stable substrate for the application of the FRP lining system, restoring structural integrity and preventing further deterioration.
Structural Reinforcement

FRP Lining Application

The fibreglass (FRP) lining and final coating system has been successfully completed, providing a fully sealed, durable, and chemically resistant finish. The tank is now protected against leakage, corrosion, and environmental stress, ensuring reliable, long-term performance.
Returned to Service
With the fibreglass (FRP) lining system complete, the effluent ethanol and water tank has been successfully returned to service. The refurbished structure now benefits from a fully sealed, corrosion-resistant lining, ensuring safe, reliable operation and extended service life.
